CHRISTOS ANESTI! CHRIST HAS RISEN!

May the knowledge of the risen Christ fill your hearts with love and joy! Spring is in the air and that means Philoptochos is busier than ever.

Thank you to Denise Manos and Maria Kootsikas for their very fact filled and informative presentation on Women’s Heart Health.

Many thanks to all the Philoptochos bakers who supplied all of us with Lenten koulourakia during the fasting period and also for the time and work you all put in while baking Tsourekia. Your baking is second to none!

Thank you to Nick and Eleni Triantos for the yearly egg donation and to Cecilia Kourtis and her egg dying team.

A special thank you to Kay Platis for organizing visitations and all those who helped visit our homebound members.

The LA Quilt Guild held its biennial quilt show at the end of April. The ladies of Philoptochos were right on hand with delicious Greek food. Again it was a very successful event. Several Philoptochos members were able to attend For The Child Circle of Friends breakfast at the Sheraton Hotel Long Beach where the lovely ladies of Philoptochos were recognized for their contribution to this organization.

At this time, all of you should have received your Kids ‘n’ Cancer letters and invitation to the annual Kids ‘n’ Cancer reception. The reception is May 6, 2018 at Newport Beach Country Club. The cost is $75 per person. If you are interested in attending and in need of transportation, please contact at ksf90241@yahoo.com. If you have not sent your donation in, there is still time. No donation is too small…every amount received brings another child with cancer to camp.

Philoptochos would like to honor our 2018 graduates. If you have an upcoming grad from high school or college, please email me at ksf90241@yahoo.com with their information.

Summer may be on its way but it is the perfect time to help with the Philoptochos Back Pack Project. Last year with your help we were able to donate 116 filled back packs to Long Beach children. We will be doing this through the summer months. Look for the display in the hall. We not only need backpacks but school supplies too. Don’t like to shop? We can do that for you. A $30 donation will help fill a backpack.

This July, the Clergy Laity/Philoptochos conference will be held in Boston. Here we will share ideas and information to help spread philanthropy throughout the world. We at Long Beach will be sending two delegates along with our Long Beach representatives who are on the Metropolis Board. There will be more news about the conference in the next Panagia.

Our love and philanthropy can only be shared with your help. Your membership is one of the biggest sources of assistance. If you have forgotten to send your membership in or want to be a part of Philoptochos for the first time, it’s not too late! Just stop at the Philoptochos table and any one of the board members will be happy to give you a membership form.

You can be a part of:
