HOPE and JOY Long Beach Youth Ministry

Ministering The Needs of Our Youth

HOPE and JOY Long Beach is the youth ministry for children in grades K–5 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach. This ministry helps young children grow in faith, build friendships, and experience the joy of being part of a loving church community.

Helping children grow in faith, friendship, and love for Christ through fellowship, learning, and fun.

The HOPE and JOY Long Beach program is designed to create a welcoming, engaging, and faith-filled environment where children feel connected to the Church. These early years are an important time for spiritual development, and our goal is to help each child feel known, valued, and encouraged.

Through fellowship events, seasonal activities, and shared experiences, children begin to understand that church is more than a Sunday service—it is a community where they belong.

What Is HOPE in HOPE and JOY Long Beach?

HOPE (Holy Orthodox Primary Education) serves children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Within HOPE and JOY Long Beach, this group focuses on introducing younger children to the beauty of Orthodox Christian life in a fun and nurturing way.

Children participate in activities that help them build friendships while becoming familiar with the traditions and rhythm of the Church. HOPE lays the foundation for a lifelong relationship with faith.

What Is JOY in HOPE and JOY Long Beach?

JOY (Junior Orthodox Youth) serves children in 3rd through 5th grade. As part of HOPE and JOY Long Beach, JOY helps older elementary students stay engaged as they grow in independence and confidence.

This group provides opportunities for fellowship, learning, and participation in parish life, helping children develop a stronger connection to their faith and community.

What Families Can Expect from HOPE and JOY Long Beach

Families involved in HOPE and JOY Long Beach can expect a supportive and welcoming environment where children are encouraged to grow spiritually and socially. Activities may include:

  • Seasonal celebrations and holiday events
  • Fellowship gatherings with other children
  • Service opportunities and community involvement
  • Faith-based learning experiences

Every activity is designed to help children feel included, confident, and excited about being part of the Church.

Building Faith Through Community

HOPE and JOY Long Beach plays an important role in helping children experience the Church as a place of love, kindness, and belonging. By forming strong relationships early, children are more likely to stay connected to their faith as they grow.

We encourage families to also explore our Sunday School program and GOYA youth ministry as their children continue their journey.
